Talk to Hibbert

Turns out Salyu is playing down in London while my girlfriend is in the country. Totally just had a badass boyfriend moment and got us tickets. I’m pretty proud of myself right now.

Tickets are here (seated) and here (standing). Blatantly going to be in the standing area.

Watching Cannes press conferences makes me happy. Especially when it includes Bill Murray in an awesome jacket.

I’m not the best director in the world. I’m pretty bad at getting things out of my head to explain characters to actors and I certainly don’t have a large expressive vocabulary. But I have a lot of good things in my head, I have a good cinematic eye and I feel I know what I need to make a good film.

I’d say I’m very unique as a film director because I probably shouldn’t be doing it. I’m not loud, not outspoken and I don’t want control or dominate or demand attention like other filmmakers I’ve met over the years. I’m quiet and extremely calm, but seem to implode while dealing with other egos amongst the film crew. If I have AD’s who are louder than me I’ll curl up into my shell.

I’m definitely an odd guy for the job. And have lots to learn to be less terrible with working with actors. But hopefully I’ll get back to making good films now (after certain failures).
